Overview

The Hamptons Diet: Lose Weight Quickly and Safely with the Doctors Delicious Meal Plans is a popular low carb diet created by Dr. Fred Pescatore M.D., former medical director for the Atkins Center. The diet is essentially a low carb version of the Mediterranean. It places an emphasis on quality protein such as fish, organic unprocessed carbs, and fats high omega 3 fatty acids. A typical meal might involve grilled fresh salmon, with a side sautéed organic spinach, a glass of wine and some fresh fruit for desert. There is a fair amount of gimmicky-ness to the diet, as the subtitle is “Diet secrets of the rich, famous, and thin” The truth is that there is no “secret” to being thin and the assertion that rich people have it, is dubious at best.

Pros

  • Healthy: The diet recommends fresh organic foods and advises against processed packaged foods.
  • Will Lose Weight: Following such a weight loss strategy will likely produce weight loss…so long as you stay on the program.

Cons

  • Expensive: All those salmon fillets, and organic vegetables will add up on your grocery bills. Perhaps the “secret” of the rich is they can afford such a healthy lifestyle.
  • Lack of Real World Applicability: This diet is hard if you eat out, travel, have kids, or attend social functions….

Bottom Line

Basically it’s another low carb diet, that is much healthier and doable than the Atkins program, but still likely to be too strict and unsustainable for most people in the long term. What works long term is a balanced diet that incorporates all the food groups and emphasizes portion control along with moderate exercise.
